Morbihan which is only 20 minutes away is famed for its white sandy beaches and warm sea. It is steeped in local culture, history, architecture. La Faouet which is only 10 minutes away is famed for its local market with plenty of fresh produced as is Quimperle also only 15 minutes. Midway between Quimper and Lorient, Quimperlé is an attractive small town with pretty medieval streets and churches. Guided tours are available from the tourist office and take about two hours. Music festivals and concerts take place in July and August. The Fête de la Laïta in mid-August is a family occasion with canoe “battles” and 2CV races. Stretching along the banks of the river Odet, Quimper is the ancient capital of la Cornouaille, the name given to this region by the ancient Celts who fled here from Cornwall. There are plenty of references to King Arthur and his knights too, as much part of folklore here as in Britain. The local village, only 3 minutes away. has a restaurant, bakery and grocery store. Nearest airports are Brest (90 minutes and L'Orient 30 minutes. Car hire can easily be arranged and all the roads are modern and places are well signposted. The local port is Roscoff in 90 minutes away.
